Overview:

Petroleum engineering is the application of chemistry, physics, math, geology, and engineering principles to discover a cost-effective way to identify promising areas for exploration, access this natural resource, and refine it into desirable products. Chemists in the oil and petroleum industry work with crude oil and the products derived from it right from  the identification of the Oil well till the getting of the end product.

The industry can be divided into two major components: upstream and downstream. The upstream takes care of the exploration and production of hydrocarbon, i.e. crude oil and gas, whereas downstream industry refines the produced hydrocarbon into usable products such as naphtha, kerosene, aviation turbine fuel, gasoline, diesel & LPG and markets these refined products. The integrated oil and gas organizations are involved in both components of the petroleum industry. This industry needs chemical engineers, organic, analytical, inorganic, physical chemists, biochemists etc

Our training includes…

  • Introduction to petroleum sector – India & world scenario
  • Oil & Gas Exploration, Production facilities, onshore & offshore terminals
  • Power plants(Coal fired ,Gas fired CCPP)
  • Plant safety (NEBOSH, OSHA)
  • Rigs, well construction
  • Oil and gas separation process
  • Water treatment plants
  • Boilers, Pressure vessels, Heat Exchangers,  Pumps, Compressors & Turbines – Design basis, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning
  • Piping & pipeline construction
  • Plant Automation, PLC & SCADA
  • Safety Engineering
  • Storage tanks

Pertecnica’s Oil and gas (Upstream) Course is the most popular Chemical engineering training course in India. It covers both project technologies and Plant technologies. Project training include the basics of design basis and philosophy, project planning, procurement of equipment, installations and commissioning etc. Our plant technologies include simulation training, PLC and SCADA training, basic safety engineering, codes and standards etc. This is the best comprehensive short term training available on Upstream technologies in Oil andd gas for Chemical engineers

Who are Eligible?

A solid foundation in organic and physical chemistry is vital, analytical chemistry skills are extremely important, and a background in chemical engineering is required. After the training, the  students generally work for large oil companies where they work on fluid-cracking catalysts, chemicals used to aid in the drilling and refinery area, or technical support for handling environmental systems.

Specializations & Job areas for Chemical engineers

Reservoir engineering:

A reservoir is essentially a large porous media underground filled with reservoir fluids – oil, gas and water. In order to recover oil or gas from a reservoir, chemical engineering fundamentals such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat & mass transfer must be understood and applied.

Production engineering:

Once we identify the prospective reservoir, the second and most important work is to produce the hydrocarbon up to the surface to monetize it. The production engineers are responsible for designing the optimum completion of the well and producing it to the maximum limit safely and economically. Here again, the knowledge of fluid flow through conduit (Fluid mechanics), PVT (Thermodynamics) and heat transfer is very important. The work of production engineers starts from exploration and lasts till the abandonment of the field.

Process engineering:

As mentioned earlier, many chemical engineers can be found in this section of upstream petroleum industry. They are involved in separation of the produced fluid into oil, gas and water, involved in other important processes of upstream operations, i.e. gas dehydration, produced and/or injection water. They get involved in concept selection of the facility design and keep involved during the operating phase of the field.
