Training on Ethylene manufacturing unit for Chemical Engineers

Ethylene is a hydrocarbon with the formula C2H4. It is a colorless, flammable gas with a very faint odor. As a hydrocarbon with carbon-carbon double bonds and only two carbons, ethylene is the simplest alkene.

Ethylene is the common name of Ethene (H2C=CH2). It is currently the most consumed intermediate product in the world. One of the most important uses of ethylene is the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The main customers for this plant are plastic companies. Ethelyne is required for polymerization of products such as high-density polyethylene (HDPE), low-density polyethylene (LDPE), polystyrene, Monoethylene glycol (MEG), or polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

PVC currently serves over 70% of the construction market. This includes plastics, dominating pipe and fittings, widows, siding, decking and fencing. In addition, PVC serves 60% of the wire and cable plastics market and 25% of the coatings market.

Ethene is produced from the stream cracking of fractions obtained from distillation of natural gas and oil. Ethylene is thought of as the aging hormone in plants. It is widely used in Detergent industries for surfactants production.
