Land reclamation or simply reclamation is the process of making new land from the ocean, lakes, and riverbanks. It is also known as land fill. But, this is not landfills. A landfill is a waste disposal ground, whereas a land fill is a fresh land created from the ocean or riverbeds. The new land formed by the process of reclamation is termed as reclamation ground or land fill.

This process of reclamation is commonly done in coastal areas. Sometimes rivers and lakes are also filled naturally with sand or dirt; developing some new land in this process. Lan reclamation is conducted in a number of ways, with the specific approach based on project goals and objectives and site-specific characteristics. The equipment used for reclamation projects is adapted primarily from technologies already in use in the mining industry, as well as in construction.
